During Karva Chauth pooja, the married women sit in a circle. At the center of,
they place the two-inch tall idol of Goddess Gauri made by using fresh cow dung.
A karva (holy pitcher) is placed beside the idol, on a raised platform. Then,
the women apply tilak on the idol of Gauri Ma to seek her blessings and pray for
a long, blissful and prospered married life. Thereafter, an elderly woman of the
group narrates the Karva Chauth katha (story), a legend associated with the
celebration of the festival. After the story is over, other women rotate a puja
thali occasionally, reciting the Karwa Chauth song. After the pooja is over,
women return to their respective homes.
The married woman would wait for
the moon to rise in the evening. They would go to the place, with their
individual puja thalis, where moon is clearly visible. Once the moon rises, they
would see the moon through the sieve, offer prasad (dry fruits such as almonds
and cashew nuts) or snacks such as mathi to the moon, and then see their husband
through the same sieve. Thereafter, they would break their fast by drinking the
water that they have kept in their thali.

Karva Chauth -The Indian Festival
Karva Chauth is all about the infinite love and devotion of a wife for her husband and her willingness to sacrifice for his well being. The day which marks the emerald celebrations in various parts of the north India, falls on the chaturthi tithi after the full moon in the month of kartik as per the Hindu calendar. Many sacred scriptures , says that the Karva Chauth fast should be observed at moonrise (chandrodaya vyapini) and poorvaviddha. It is considered to be a good sign if its tritiya viddha. If it is visible during the both days then one should take the first one but in case it is not visible on both days then it would be right to keep fast on the second day. The Karwa Chauth fast is observed on the Kartik ki Chouth which is the 4th day of the dark moon and falls 9 days before the Deepavali festival, sometime in October or November. Karva Chauth 2012 is in the last week of October.
Karva Chauth is the fast which every married woman or 'suhagins' keep for bestowing wedded bliss and praying to god for long life and happiness of their husband. It is the celebration of the cherishable moments of the relationship which is the notion of sacredness, chastity and demureness, swabbing the lives of both husband and wife with the colors of love and devotion.

Janpath—Spring/Summer collection
The Janpath clothes market situated in the heart of the city attracts crowd in thousands. On a weekend one is witness to people shopping like there’s no tomorrow barely leaving any elbow room. This summer’s fashion trends are big, bold, loud and proud. Janpath sports the new look of fashion with drawstring capris in interesting fabrics like cotton and chiffon and prints varying from checks to paisleys.
These capris are comfortable, chic and can be used with a casual T-shirt for regular/comfortable wear or can be teamed up with a sexy halter-neck blouse or a tube top for hitting the disco and making a statement. A lot of interesting accessories like belts, earrings, ‘kamarbandhs’, bangles can also be brought off Janpath. Sadly, the shoes are not recommended and the bags are high priced. The jholas however are still in fashion and are available in plenty.
Sarojini Nagar—short and hot
This market is known for its quantity of useful apparels and its affordability. Though one might get a tad bit disappointed at the collection this summer as most of the stuff seems the same as last year’s. However if one has the perseverance, shopping for those summer essentials like vests, singlets, tube tops, denim capris and some skirts in bright florals and whites might be satisfactorily accomplished. What one will find in abundance at this time of the year here, are shorts in various prints and lengths.
Hot pants and shorts are this year’s denims or skirts! These shorts or hot pants can be teamed with a formal white shirt, a slinky belt and front-closed heels to stand out in fashion. However, one does run the risk of ending up looking wannanbe if they are not used with the right top and shoes. So take care when you put on those shorts as they are not great in themselves and will require the innovation and experimentation.
